About the Course

This course will provide students with a deep understanding of the mathematical concepts and techniques that are used in the design and operation of drones. Students will learn how to plan and execute complex drone trajectories, estimate the state of a drone using sensors, and develop advanced control systems for drones.


  • Week 1: Introduction to drones and basic drone math (vectors, coordinate systems, principles of flight)

  • Week 2: Trajectory planning (waypoint navigation, B-spline interpolation, model predictive control)

  • Week 3: State estimation (GPS, IMUs, cameras)

  • Week 4: Path planning and obstacle avoidance (potential field methods, RRTs)

  • Week 5: Advanced control techniques (adaptive control, optimal control)
